In addition to our
commitment to woodworking, we are also committed to helping find a cure
for Cystic Fibrosis. We give a portion of our annual sales to the
foundation.
Cystic Fibrosis is the #1 genetic fatal disease
of children and young adults in America today. 10 million Americans
are symptomless carriers of the defective gene that causes CF
(that's 1 in 30 people). Over 30,000 children and young adults are
living with the devastating affects of this monster every day.
Affects that clogs their airways with thick, sticky mucus causing
life-threatening lung infections and chronic lung damage. Cystic
Fibrosis also affects its victims digestive system resulting in
malnutrition. In 1955 most children born with Cystic Fibrosis did
not live long enough to attend kindergarten. Today half will live
to see age 37, "half will not"! While much progress has been made
toward treating CF, it's a sad fact that we continue to lose
precious lives to this disease.

That is why this May and every May after, until
they find a cure, my family and I will be participating in the
National Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis. Great Strides is
one of the biggest fund raising events of the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation. With 90% of every dollar raised going to scientists to
fund critical research in the treatment and "hopefully" someday a
cure for CF.
Matthew
is proof of the great things that are happening for these kids. He
has medication available to him that wouldn't be here if it weren't
for events like Great Strides and generous people like yourself. He
doesn't complain about the daily inhaled and oral treatments he has
to endure. He knows they are his ammunition to fight this disease
so he can run and play like any normal kid. Only normal shouldn't
have to be so hard. That is why your help is vital. We must keep
the momentum moving forward, not just for
Matthew but for all the
precious children and young adults who are desperately waiting for
the day when CF stands for "Cure Found".
